Astronaut Training
- International Space Station (ISS) Training
We provide training for all crew, including ESA, NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, CSA and UAE crew members. We teach all astronauts and cosmonauts how to work safely in the Columbus module, perform maintenance and hardware upgrades, and perform a variety of experiments from biology to human physiology to physics and robotics. - Commercial Crew Training
We train all commercial astronauts and cosmonauts flying to the ISS on private missions to work safely in space and perform basic tasks and experiments. - Basic Training
We prepare, certify and provide training to new ESA astronaut candidates.
Further Training Offers & Training-related Services
- Ground Support Personnel Training
We provide instruction to train and certify new flight controllers and payload operators. Training consists of classroom lessons, exercises and simulations including other international partners. - Instructional System Design
We provide training development support and consultancy, certification and quality assurance for all aspects of the ISS, GSP and Basic Training to ensure it complies with international partner agreements. - Instructional Techniques Course
Our Instructional System Designers (ISDs) and Crew Instructors provide instructional techniques training for new ISS programme instructors based at EAC, such as disciplines at other ESA centres, as well as from our industrial partners. - Training Administration
Telespazio Germany is fully responsible for organising, supporting and maintaining records of all types of training and baseline data collection activities taking place at EAC. - Management of LAMB interns
The LAMB media laboratory provides media and video support to the EAC Training Division and to the broader EAC community. Media produced by LAMB is used for many purposes including ISS on-board training videos, training development and PR purposes.
ISS Operations Support
- Our EUROCOMs (European Communicator and Medical Operations) are responsible for communications with ISS crew members working on ESA activities within the Columbus Flight Control team. They are also responsible for the health and wellbeing of ESA astronauts in space.
- Our ECOS (EAC Crew Operations Support) members are responsible for the preparation and operation of ESA payloads on the ISS.
- Our MUSC Operations Team provide a variety of services in support of European payload operations on-board the ISS, ranging from preparation to in-orbit execution. This includes experiment preparation and test campaigns, ISS incremental operations planning, Certification Flight Readiness (CoFR) campaigns, and performing real-time operation of the payloads.
