EarthCARE: Our Contribution

28 Mai 2024

The EarthCARE (Earth Cloud, Aerosol and Radiation Explorer) is a joint effort between the European Space Agency - ESA and the JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. This mission aims to improve our understanding of how clouds and aerosols interact with solar and terrestrial radiation. These interactions are important for climate regulation and weather forecasting, and understanding them is key to enhancing climate models and predictions.

The main objectives of EarthCARE are to provide detailed vertical profiles of clouds and aerosols in the Earth's atmosphere, study the impact of these elements on the Earth's radiation budget, and use this high-resolution data to improve the accuracy of climate models. The mission will support various scientific studies related to climate change and atmospheric processes.

Telespazio Germany is proud to contribute to the EarthCARE mission through our expert staff and comprehensive support services. As part of the Flight Control Team, Telespazio offers essential support during the LEOP phase; Anne Hartmann specialises in on-console operations support (SpaCon), ensuring the smooth operation of the spacecraft; Helena Mainka provides critical support for the Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS), maintaining the stability and orientation of the satellite; and Emanuele Lovera focuses on data handling subsystem support, ensuring efficient data management and transmission.

Filipe Metelo is the Prime Simulation Officer for EarthCARE, and Joe Bush has been serving as the Deputy Simulations Officer, playing a vital role in preparing and validating the mission operations. Justin Howard is the Operations Manager on EarthCARE.

In addition to technical support, Telespazio Germany contributes through our Administrative and Management Services. Ana Sorina has been essential in administrative and management support, facilitating the overall coordination and logistics required for the mission's success.

The EarthCARE mission represents a significant step forward in climate research, offering valuable insights into the interactions between clouds, aerosols, and radiation. Telespazio Germany is honoured to contribute to the mission, helping address the pressing challenges of climate change and the development of more accurate climate models and effective mitigation strategies.
